Emily Jennings is Managing Partner at Moulis Legal, leading the firm’s national practice, with a particular focus on disputes and regulatory issues arising in international trade, customs and cross‑border business operations.
Emily works with Australian and international businesses to identify, manage and resolve disputes and regulatory issues at an early stage, particularly where trade regulation, sanctions, export controls or customs compliance intersect with commercial strategy, supply chain continuity and market access. She advises boards, executives and in‑house legal teams on mitigating risk, assessing prospects and making informed decisions before disputes escalate into costly and disruptive litigation.
A significant part of Emily’s practice involves helping clients navigate trade‑related disputes and regulatory issues involving customs compliance, classification, valuation and standards. She regularly assists businesses responding to investigations, enforcement action and information‑gathering exercises by regulators, including Australian Border Force (ABF); and provides strategic advice to manage sanctions and export control risk, including engaging with Australian Sanctions Office (ASO) and Defence Export Controls (DEC).
Where regulatory decisions become contentious, Emily represents clients in administrative law and judicial review proceedings, including challenges to decisions of the Anti‑Dumping Commission and Commonwealth Ministers responsible for industry, trade and foreign affairs.
Emily brings extensive litigation experience to complex and high‑stakes disputes, particularly those with cross‑border, government contract or technology‑related dimensions. She advises clients at all stages of a dispute, from early strategic analysis, risk assessment and opportunities for resolution, through to urgent interlocutory relief, injunctions and trial preparation where litigation cannot be avoided.
Emily has acted in proceedings before the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Courts of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT, and has led matters on appeal to the Full Court of the Federal Court and special leave applications to the High Court of Australia.
Clients value Emily’s ability to cut through legal complexity and focus on commercially sensible outcomes, whether that involves resolving disputes efficiently, narrowing issues early, managing regulatory exposure or protecting business continuity in time‑critical and compliance‑sensitive situations. She works closely with Moulis Legal’s broader team to deliver integrated and practical dispute resolution strategies for businesses operating across borders.
Together with her role as Managing Partner of Moulis Legal, Emily draws on her range of legal and management experiences to support directors and executive teams on complex legal and regulatory issues.
Emily graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of International Business. She also holds a Master of Public and International Law from the University of Melbourne, where she studied contemporary issues including international regulation, artificial intelligence in administrative law and digital trade.
In 2024 and 2025, Emily was recognised as a national finalist at the Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards in Dispute Resolution, Litigation and New Partner of the Year (SME Law). She has also previously served as Company Secretary of Australia China Initiatives Limited (known as Australia‑China Young Professionals Initiative), gaining valuable experience working on governance, risk oversight and strategic decision‑making.
