Moulis Legal has cemented its position as one of the top trade firms at a global level, following the appointment of Special Counsel, Jessica Giovanelli.

Jessica joins Moulis Legal with an already impressive list of career highlights, including working in the Office of International Law at the Attorney General’s Department, the Rules Division of the World Trade Organization, and most recently at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Moulis Legal Partner and Head of International Trade Services, Charles Zhan said Jessica is one of Australia’s most experienced WTO lawyers and an important addition to the firm.

“She is a highly skilled, meticulous and effective lawyer and advocate, with specialist skills and expertise in dispute settlement, treaty negotiations, sanctions and trade policy – and is contributing to Moulis Legal’s ever-growing full-service international and regulatory practice,” he said.

Based in the Canberra office, Jessica's rich international and government experience will be of benefit to clients from both the public and private sectors.

Mr Zhan said Jessica is interested in the commercial imperatives driving how companies and governments engage with international trade and investment law and their interaction in the broader global context.

“She will play an important part in helping business and government understand and enforce their rights and obligations, whether in the Australian administrative law context, or internationally,” he said.

Jessica has worked on a number of sensitive and high-profile matters. Jessica said a career highlight was supporting WTO panellists on the long running Airbus/Boeing WTO disputes.

"As well as being high profile, I gained valuable insights into the technical as well as legal aspects of aviation projects and financing, and the role played by governments in getting the products to market," she said

Jessica is delighted to join Australia’s pre-eminent international trade firm and honoured to be working with some of the world’s most talented and industry-recognised lawyers.

“At Moulis Legal, I am building on the firm’s experience, and look forward to working with the foremost international trade law specialists in Australia,” she said.

Jessica has completed undergraduate and graduate studies in law and international relations in Canberra (ANU), Paris (Sciences Po), and London (LSE).
