Lawyer ranking agency Legal Media has recognised Moulis Legal Senior Associate Alistair Bridges as a “Rising Star” in the International Trade Law category in the 2020 Rising Stars edition of its Expert Guides publication, the only Australian lawyer to receive this award.
This recognition comes after a rigorous process of recommendation by senior members of the world’s legal community across 55 jurisdictions, the results of which were vetted closely by Legal Media’s research team. It reflects his standing amongst his colleagues, as well as the depth of experience and professionalism he brings to international trade law matters.
Alistair is a key member of Moulis Legal’s international trade law team, having represented clients in every aspect of the discipline, from trade rules through to sanctions compliance. He brings to these matters a curious mind, an incisive intellect, extensive legal understanding, and an economic and financial skill-set that is unusual for a lawyer. This allows him to unpack, explain and resolve client problems in a way that is intelligent, practical and commercial.
Amongst Alistair’s clients are some of the world’s largest steel, chemical, pulp and paper, energy, data, and mining services corporations, who he has acted for in trade investigations, regulatory due diligence, government advisory work, administrative review, and litigation matters. Key successes over the last year include reversal of rejected duty refund applications in the Federal Court (steel), turnaround of recommendations for continued “anti-dumping” measures (power transformers), and advising on implications of US and Australian sanctions on Iran trade (food exports).
Alistair has been recognised as an “Associate to Watch” in the International Law/WTO arena by Chambers & Partners on a number of occasions, was one of Australia’s 21 most outstanding young lawyers as reported by The Australian newspaper, and is listed as a leading export control and sanctions expert by the Journal of Export Controls and Sanctions. He is an Accredited Specialist in Administrative Law as certified by the Law Institute of Victoria.
