Moulis Legal has opened an office in Brisbane, bringing its recognised commercial+international brand of legal advice to Queensland.

Moulis Legal commenced operations in Canberra in 2005. The firm has built up a strong reputation for excellence in its representation of clients in major commercial matters and in international business. The multi-awarded practice is a “Leading Firm” in Chambers Global 2013 and is “Top Listed” in Best Lawyers International. Moulis Legal was an award winner in the M&A International Global 2013 and in the CorporateINTL Legal Awards 2013.

Moulis Legal’s main practice areas are international trade and investment, property projects and infrastructure, commercial law, and resources and energy. It has a special interest in two-way trade and investment with China, and in WTO regulations and compliance. Its clients come from the ranks of foreign governments, exporters/importers, major multi-nationals, and large Australian corporations. Moulis Legal is only one of two Australian firms ranked as “Band 1 – International Trade/WTO” by Chambers Global.

In its Brisbane office, Moulis Legal will replicate the existing practice of the firm. The office will also have a particular focus on the legal needs of investors in the energy and resources industry in Queensland and more widely.

The firm’s principal, Daniel Moulis, explained the Brisbane decision as being both pragmatic and exciting for the firm. “Queensland is the most balanced of the Australian States in terms of its overall economic development, and it has the best growth prospects. In our view it has huge attraction as a destination for Asian investment, for economic and lifestyle reasons. The international interface of its major industries makes it a logical location for a law firm like ours. We look forward to introducing our business-focussed brand of legal advice to this important market.”

The Brisbane office is led by senior associate Christopher Hewitt. Mr Hewitt has practised resources and energy law across Queensland, in other Australian jurisdictions, across Asia and in southern Africa. This has included representation of clients in investment, exploration, development and operation of mining and petroleum projects. Mr Moulis pledged that his firm would “continue to deliver the same high level of commercial acumen and legal expertise for which we have become known, wherever our clients consult with us”.
