Principal partner at Moulis Legal, Daniel Moulis, told attendees at the Export Council of Australia’s ‘Finding your international competitiveness in Singapore’ market briefing that the importance of Singapore as either a “spoke” or a “hub” for Australian exporters was unquestionable. The briefing, held on 4 September and hosted by the Export Council for the NSW Department of Industry, heard private and public sector speakers give insights from their experiences and knowledge of our small but dynamic northern neighbour.
Daniel commented that:
“It’s not just about the 5 million people that live in Singapore, although they are very eager consumers of Australian products. It’s also about the many millions in Asia that you can access from a Singapore base."
He then added that the competitiveness of Singapore was not all good news for the Australian economy.
“Singapore’s low tax, its government support of regional HQs and ease of company set-up, strong rule of law and its better amenity than many other Asian capitals have enticed many Australian businesses and their money out of Australia.”
Speakers from Austrade, premium foods exporter Mulwarra Meats, serviced office company Servcorp, and Australia Post also presented on their experiences of the Singapore market, with facilitation by Lisa McAuley, CEO of the Export Council.
